Cook County Commissioner Miller to present Resolution commemorating Minority Mental Health Awareness Month to local provider of Community Mental Health and Counseling

Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller, 6th District, will present a Resolution to Sertoma Star Services to commemorate its work improving mental health outcomes across the county. July is Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, and Sertoma Star Services is a leading provider of mental health services in the south suburbs of Chicago, offering Community Mental Health and Counseling services based out of Matteson, IL.

Sertoma Star Services, an agency supporting individuals with disabilities and those living with mental illness, has programs and services designed to meet the unique needs and interests of every person served. Its Community Mental Health and Counseling is a dedicated facility within the Sertoma Star agency built on the principles of recovery, building strengths, creating positive futures, and reintegrating into the community.

In 2008, the U.S. House of Representatives designated July as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month to enhance public awareness of mental illness, especially within minority communities. It was inspired by the impactful work of author and advocate Bebe Moore Campbell, who championed improving communities through mental wellness, open access to effective mental health treatment and services, and community outreach and support for the many who are unable to speak for themselves.
